Support Indigenous health and well-being by giving to SOAHAC’s traditional healing programs

Reconciliation is an important and a long-term process, and it will involve the care, commitment and passion of so many in our communities. At the Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre, we are committed to offering tangible opportunities for action toward reconciliation.

We know that many settlers are considering how they can support Indigenous communities through their charitable giving. Giving to organizations such as SOAHAC that are committed to honouring and promoting connections to traditional cultures, languages and ways of knowing is one step towards reconciliation.

Our traditional healing program, which is available across our six sites, is a key funding priority for SOAHAC. Traditional healing is a wholistic approach to care that understands that all living things are connected and must be in harmony and balance in order to be well, and seeks to return the participant to balance through connection to Creator. Clients are able to meet with a Traditional Healer or Elder to care for their overall health and well-being, including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. They may participate in cultural teachings, ceremonies, storytelling, doctoring, guidance, drumming, singing, and smudging, in group and individual settings, depending on the practice.

These connections are vital to ensuring the long-term health and well-being of our communities, because as people heal from generations of trauma, we create greater harmony and balance in all of Creation.

But we need your help.

Traditional healing is a critical part of the healthcare SOAHAC provides, but there is a greater demand for services than our current funding allows. Giving to our traditional healing program means that more people can access the wholistic healthcare they need , when they need it.

A gift in support of traditional healing at SOAHAC is more than a generous show of support. It’s an act of reconciliation that will help generations of Indigenous families find better health, healing and hope.
