Enhanced food security initiatives coming to SOAHAC via United Way funding

SOAHAC is excited to share that two of our food security programs have been selected for funding from the United Way of Elgin Middlesex, totalling $254,800 for each of two years.

The United Way’s Community Fund Program focuses on poverty reduction and prevention initiatives for the region’s most marginalized populations. Both our Ashamaawaso (she/he feeds a child) food security program at Nshwaasnangong and Minomode-zewin nunge-gehwin, also known as the Sustain program at our William Street location in London, were amongst 53 projects chosen to be funded out of 121 total applications.

Last week, CTV News did this segment on the grant program, which featured Dietitian Jocelyn Zurbrigg and Child and Youth Worker Justice Doxtator.

These grants clearly demonstrate an understanding of the need for food security in Indigenous communities, and the United Way’s confidence in the SOAHAC team’s ability to implement them successfully.

These projects are yet another example of how our SOAHAC team is improving the holistic health and wellness for Indigenous individuals and families across the region.
