SOAHAC Celebrates Grand Opening of Cambridge Clinic Site
On June 20, SOAHAC held the grand opening of its newest clinic site in Cambridge, located at 745 Coronation Boulevard, which supports the health and wellbeing of Indigenous peoples living in the Region of Waterloo and Wellington County.
SOAHAC leadership and Cambridge-site staff members were joined by Traditional Elder Myeengun Henry, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health, MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP for Cambridge Brian Riddell, and Region of Waterloo Chair Karen Redman to celebrate the establishment of primary health care services on the site, which will complement the traditional healing and mental health and addictions services that have been operating there since March 2021.
The clinic is part of the continuum of care offered in the region by SOAHAC, and which was previously provided by the Waterloo Wellington Indigenous Healing and Wellness Program (IHWP) through the Guelph Community Health Centre (Guelph CHC). After a comprehensive review process initiated by Guelph CHC and steered by Indigenous-led consultant, INDSight, SOAHAC was chosen to continue Guelph CHC’s deep commitment to Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands following a comprehensive process to seek an Indigenous-led and governed provider to which to transition the program.
